From 3G beginnings to a shared group
Three arrived in the UK in 2003 with a network built around 3G. Mobile internet remained central to its identity as newer generations followed. The Vodafone UK and Three UK merger completed in May 2025. Three continues as a customer-facing brand; a shared group does not turn a Three contract into a Vodafone tariff or combine customer accounts automatically.
The service behind the name
Evaluate Three at the places you actually use your phone. A strong outdoor prediction does not establish reception in a basement or on a particular train. Check the coverage map alongside the current service-status information. Compatible 5G equipment is useful only where suitable coverage and the account's service conditions align. My3 is Three's own account area.
Keeping a phone: SIM-only
A SIM-only connection separates airtime from obtaining a new handset. With Three, read the chosen allowance, commitment and travel conditions as a complete package. Someone relying on tethering for a laptop should consider that usage separately from ordinary phone browsing. Write down the plan name because a generic reference to an unlimited plan may omit important conditions.
Changing a phone: separate the documents
A phone arrangement can contain distinct device and airtime commitments. Ask which agreement ends when, what remains outstanding and whether an upgrade changes either agreement. A handset return is not automatically a cancellation of every service attached to it. Keep the documents supplied with the connection so a later discussion concerns your actual terms rather than today's website.
Monthly payments and prepaid choices
Three has both Pay Monthly and Pay As You Go routes. On a monthly account, review the minimum term and recurring payment date. On prepaid service, identify whether money becomes ordinary credit or a time-limited data pack. Automatic pack renewal needs its own check. A short allowance cycle should not be confused with indefinite preservation of an unused number.
Making sense of My3 statements
Start with the period covered, then separate regular airtime, device repayments and additional usage. Three Pay purchases, international calls and roaming can be different categories from ordinary UK use. Note the precise date and description of an unfamiliar item before contacting Three. threemoblonko can explain billing vocabulary but cannot open My3, remove a charge or negotiate on your behalf.
eSIM and number transfer are different jobs
Three publishes digital-SIM installation and replacement instructions. Verify the exact handset and account route before beginning. An eSIM replacement changes the way the service is stored on the phone; bringing a number from another provider is a separate switching task. Keep access to your existing service until the official instructions explain when it should stop working.
Go Roam needs a plan-specific check
The Go Roam name covers destination and entitlement rules that vary with the arrangement. Check the country, applicable pass or inclusion, allowance limits and what activity triggers use. Travelling abroad and calling an overseas number from home are different situations. Do not infer that a large UK data allowance transfers unchanged to every journey or to aircraft and ship networks.
Moving your number away
Use Three's official switching route to obtain the appropriate code, then provide it to the receiving provider. Before acting, identify any remaining device obligation and save information you may need from the account. A move between Three's own service types may use an internal procedure instead. Ask Three to confirm the correct route for your account rather than cancelling the number first.
