Decide what you are moving
Start by identifying the number to retain, its current provider and the account holder. A change between tariffs at the same provider may use an internal process. A move to a different provider normally uses the industry switching route. If several numbers share an account, ask for the procedure appropriate to that situation rather than assuming a single-line instruction covers the household.
Get the right code
For a single mobile number, Ofcom describes requesting a PAC by texting PAC to 65075. A PAC is valid for 30 days. Give it to the receiving provider when ready to move. STAC is the alternative switching code when you do not want to keep the old number. Read the response from your existing provider because it includes relevant switching information.
Prepare for the practical interruption
Choose a transfer date when a temporary interruption would be manageable. Keep another contact method available, particularly if the number receives work calls or account verification messages. Do not independently close the number before the receiving provider explains the process. Save useful account documents while access is straightforward. Device payments and unrelated subscriptions need their own review; the number moving does not make them disappear.
Check the result, then the paperwork
Once the transfer is confirmed, check incoming calls, outgoing calls and messages using a trusted contact. Inspect any final account statement and retain the transfer record. If the move does not complete, contact the receiving provider through its official channel with the expected date and reference. threemoblonko can explain the terminology but cannot obtain a code, submit the transfer or investigate provider systems.
