Start with the service terms
Airtime is the mobile service used for calls, texts and data. SIM-only describes airtime without a new handset being part of that arrangement. Pay monthly refers to recurring payment, but does not by itself tell you the minimum commitment. Prepaid means funding service in advance; it can still involve a renewing bundle rather than purely occasional usage credit.
Understand the device vocabulary
A physical SIM is a removable card and an eSIM is an embedded digital profile arrangement on supported equipment. Dual SIM means a device can support more than one subscription in some form; check how many can be active and which functions they support. An unlocked handset can accept other providers' SIMs, but still needs compatibility with the intended service and calling features.
Keep travel and data words separate
Roaming is use on another network while away from the home service area, usually discussed for overseas travel. International calling means calling another country and can happen while you remain in the UK. Tethering shares a mobile data connection with another device. Rollover carries eligible unused allowance according to defined rules; it should not be assumed to mean unlimited accumulation.
Turn unfamiliar wording into a question
When a provider uses a term you do not understand, ask what it means for your account, which conditions apply and where those conditions are recorded. A general definition is useful background, but the contract may contain a more specific meaning. threemoblonko explains common language without selling service or interpreting a private agreement as the provider's representative. Confirm account-specific answers directly.
